Description

TEA STORY

Chinese name: Da Hong Pao 大红袍

Nurtured in a protected nature reserve in Wuyi Mountain, this Da Hong Pao rock oolong tea (Yan Cha) has inherited the mineral taste from its extraordinary location. As a typical Wuyi Rock tea, it has been hiding away in the cliffs. Legend has it that it also brings blessings to people who drink it. It originated from a story of a scholar who became sick on his way to the Imperial Exam. Thanks to the monks in the temple who made this tea for him, he recovered and won first place in the exam. He was then rewarded with an honorary imperial scarlet red robe. Later he also served this tea to the emperor’s ailing mother, and it became an exclusive tribute tea for the Imperial family.

This tea belongs to our Yǐn 隐 | RECLUSE collection.

Brewing recommendations

3g | 100ml | 100 °C | 3s | 5-7 steeps

We recommend a steeping temperature of 100 °C (212 °F) to fully stimulate the strong aroma of this Oolong tea. Take 3 grams of tea with 100ml water to steep for 3 seconds. Or increase to 8.3 grams with a shorter steeping time if you prefer a stronger tea. It can be re-steeped several times when using a tea egg, filter bag, or Chinese Gaiwan/Yixing teapot. But please remove the tea leaves quickly to avoid stuffing. This tea is best suited for consuming in small cups to appreciate the tea with patience.
